PASADENA, Calif. (AP) – Marcus Mariota and Oregon turned an avalanche of Florida State mistakes into a mountain of points and the Ducks rolled past the defending national champions 59-20 yesterday to turn the first College Football Playoff semifinal into a Rose Bowl rout. Mariota and the second-seeded Ducks (13-1) scored six straight times they touched the ball in the second half, with five of the touchdowns covering at least 21 yards and the last four coming after Florida State turnovers.

PASADENA, Calif. (AP) – Dalvin Cook racked up 90 yards rushing in the first half at the Rose Bowl. The freshman fumbled away Florida State’s chances in the second half, with two big miscues that helped doom the Seminoles. Cook’s initial fumble came on the Seminoles’ first drive of the second half. The Seminoles fumbled seven times in all.

CHENEY, Wash. (AP) – Tyler Harvey hit 7 3-pointers to score a career-high 39 points and Eastern Washington’s defense took over down the stretch yesterday to open Big Sky Conference play with an 84-78 win over defending champion Weber State. The Eagles (10-4) held the Wildcats (5-7) without a field goal from the 5:57 mark until Ryan Richardson’s 3-pointer with seven seconds left.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Gary Winston scored 18 points, Braxton Tucker scored 16, and Portland State beat Southern Utah 71-68 last night in a Big Sky Conference opener. DeShaun Wiggins scored 12 points, Tiegbe Bamba 10, and the Vikings (7-4, 1-0) were outshot 46.9 percent to 37.3 percent, but hit 28 of 39 free throws.
