HUNTSVILLE, Texas (AP) – Jabari Peters scored 16 points, including 4 of 7 from 3-point range, to lead Sam Houston State to a 76-52 victory over Eastern Washington last night. All four of Peters’ field goals came from downtown, and Sam Houston State (6-4) hit 13 of 25 overall from 3-point distance. DeMarcus Gatlin added 14 points for the Bearkats and Kaheem Ransom scored 13.

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) – Ruth Hamblin had 17 points and 10 rebounds to help No. 16 Oregon State beat No. 6 North Carolina 70-55 last night. Jamie Weisner added 14 points for the Beavers, who improved to 8-0 for the first time in program history. Sydney Wiese had 13 points as the Beavers recorded their first victory over a top-10 opponent since 1995.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Former Oregon State assistant coach and chief of staff Jay Locey has been named head football coach at Lewis & Clark. Locey, who has been with the Beavers for the past nine years, replaces Chris Sulages, who resigned following a 0-9 season for the Northwest Conference Pioneers. A native of Corvallis, Oregon, Locey becomes the 10th coach in Lewis & Clark history.

UNDATED (AP) – The U.S. Olympic Committee has decided to bid for the 2024 Olympics, hoping to bring the Summer Games back to America after a 28-year absence. The USOC board heard presentations from four candidate cities, which are Boston, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Washington. A decision on which city the U.S. will put forward for a bid is expected next month.
