AUBURN HILLS, Mich. (AP) – LaMarcus Aldridge had 23 points and 11 rebounds, Wesley Matthews scored 19 points, and the Portland Trail Blazers picked up their fifth straight victory with a 98-86 win over the Detroit Pistons last night. Greg Monroe had 22 points and 10 rebounds for Detroit, which only got 40 points from its starting lineup.

SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) – Washington State’s senior guard Tia Presley scored 18 of her game-high 21 points in the second half, including the go-ahead basket with 35 seconds left, as the Cougars rallied for a 59-58 victory at Gonzaga’s McCarthey Athletic Center. The Cougars (7-2) trailed most of the way in a turnover-and foul-filled contest that Presley and Washington State coach June Daugherty described as “ugly.”

UNDATED (AP) -The Portland Timbers shored up their defense with the acquisition of veteran center back Nat Borchers and now wait to see the outcome of today’s MLS Expansion Draft. Portland also signed Ghanaian goalkeeper Adam Larsen Kwarasey from the Norwegian Premier League, Colombian winger/forward Dairon Asprilla, and Brazilian defender Jeanderson Salvador Pereira.

MONTREAL (AP) – Tomas Plekanec scored the go-ahead goal late in the third period to lead Montreal over Vancouver. Brendan Gallagher and Max Pacioretty also scored for the Canadiens, who snapped a three-game losing streak. Carey Price stopped 15 shots. Derek Dorsett scored and Ryan Miller made 21 saves as Vancouver finished a 3-3-1 road trip. Plekanec scored the tiebreaking goal with 4:16 remaining.
