PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Backers of Oregon’s measure to require labeling of genetically modified foods have lost a court fight they hoped would help them garner enough votes to pass the measure in an ongoing recount of ballots. Supporters of Measure 92 argued that about 4,600 ballots rejected because of signature problems should be counted. Measure 92 lost by a little more than 800 votes, triggering an automatic recount. The margin has changed little since the recount began last week.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A lawsuit in which Portland leaders are asking a judge to order Uber to cease operations in the city has been moved to federal court at the request of the online ridesharing business. The Oregonian reports the San Francisco-based company argued in court documents that the company stood to lose more than $100,000 in profits if required to follow the city’s regulation process for taxis.
SALEM, Ore (AP) – The state of Oregon is looking for an unusual buyer for the Elliott State Forest – some mix of private and public ownership that would leave areas open to hikers and hunters. The State Land Board directed its staff to develop a proposal to elicit offers to buy the 90,000-acre state forest in the Coast Range. Court rulings upholding protections for threatened birds have stymied timber sales.
OREGON CITY, Ore. (AP) – Searchers have begun looking for a 31-year-old Milwaukie man whose family believes he is missing on a camping trip near Mount Hood. KATU-TV reports that Gerren Kirk’s car has been found, giving searchers an idea of where to look.
