Prep Basketball
Chris Free had 17 points, eight rebounds and three steals last night, but the Mapleton Sailors fell short, 68-43 to the Yoncalla Eagles. Hunter Simington had 11 points for the Sailors who will host Triangle Lake tomorrow.
On the court tonight… It’s Siuslaw and Newport. The girls are in Florence; the boys in Newport. Both games tip off at seven. The boys’ game will be on the air beginning at 6:45.
Athlete of the Week
Siuslaw basketball standout Preston Mitchell is Coast Radio Sports’ Athlete of the week. The junior guard scored 16 points in the Viking’s season opening win over Coquille, then led Siuslaw with 12 points in a loss to Phoenix at home.
Honorable mention is given to Viking senior Joseph Dotson who also scored 16 points against Coquille, but scored 9 against the Pirates.
