PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A large group of protesters converged outside the Moda Center during last night’s game between the Portland Trail Blazers and the Indiana Pacers. The group was protesting excessive force following a New York grand jury’s decision not to indict a white police officer in the chokehold death of an unarmed black man.

GRANTS PASS, Ore. (AP) – Decades of efforts to expand the Oregon Caves National Monument to protect water quality and reduce the danger of wildfires are on the verge of paying off. A bill expanding the boundary around the southwestern Oregon marble caves to include its watershed has been attached to a defense spending bill. The measure passed the House yesterday and is expected to pass the Senate next week.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A Bend hospital says it administered the wrong medication to a patient, causing her death. St. Charles Health System says 65-year-old Loretta Macpherson was given a paralyzing agent typically used during surgeries instead of an anti-seizure medication. Three employees involved in the error have been placed on paid leave.

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. (AP) – Oregon State Police say a trooper who pulled over a car reportedly traveling 92 mph in a 65 mph zone on Interstate 5 noticed a package of what appeared to be oxycodone tablets on the passenger’s lap. A police K-9 called to the scene near Springfield found nearly 800 tablets of the powerful painkiller, as well as 10 grams of marijuana.
