Viking Boys and Girls Split with Coquille in Prep Basketball Opener

feature4 December 2014

Ducks down Crusaders; Beavers Dam Delta Devils

Joseph Young wound up with 20 points; Elgin Cook had 19 and Oregon overcame an early dismal three-point shooting display for a 94-63 victory over Concordia last night in Eugene. Young misfired on his five 3-point tries, but finished ten for 13 inside the arc. The Ducks will take on Ole Miss Sunday afternoon.

In Corvallis, the late start didn’t faze the Beavers who cruised to a 74-50 win over Mississippi Valley State. Gary Payton II had a career-high 24 points to lead Oregon State; Daniel Gomis added 11 points and six rebounds. The Beavers will be at the University of Portland Saturday night.

In Coquille, the Red Devils routed the Viking girls 63-22 in Siuslaw’s season opener. In the boys’ game, Siuslaw came out on top 51-47.
