PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Portland police arrested seven people after hundreds of demonstrators blocked traffic last night while protesting a grand jury decision not to indict a Missouri police officer in the killing of an 18-year-old. Police say the arrests involved a splinter group that broke away from a peaceful downtown demonstration that involved about 1,000 people.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Secretary of State Kate Brown has set a Dec. 12 deadline to finish the hand recount for an Oregon ballot measure seeking labels for genetically modified foods. The final results show Measure 92 was defeated by just over 800 votes out of more than 1.5 million. A recount will begin Dec. 2. Teams will count each ballot by hand.

OREGON CITY, Ore. (AP) – Oregon City police say an apparent domestic dispute has left a husband and wife with life-threatening gunshot wounds. Police tell the Oregonian that the 38-year-old man and 32-year-old woman were transported to separate Portland hospitals. The shooting occurred yesterday evening in the driveway of their home.

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – A 35-year-old Eugene woman was struck and killed by a train as she was chasing her dog across the tracks. The Eugene Register-Guard reports that Shannon Essick died at a hospital after the accident Monday night. The dog was not injured. Police say Essick wasn’t carrying any ID and was identified after a public appeal for help.
