PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A small group of demonstrators gathered in downtown Portland, Oregon, to protest a grand jury’s decision not to indict a white police officer who killed a black 18-year-old in Ferguson, Missouri. KATU-TV reports that some chanted “No Justice, No Peace” outside the Justice Center, but the rally was mostly calm. No arrests were reported late last night.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Portland police say five horses from their mounted patrol unit were turned loose last night during a burglary at the patrol’s stable. A spokesman says all five were found across a highway along the train tracks. Sergeant Pete Simpson says officers arrested a 24-year-old man in the burglary.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Firefighters have rescued a construction worker found unconscious at the bottom of a 15-foot-deep hole in southwest Portland. Fire Lieutenant Damon Simmons said Monday that no one was with the man when he became unconscious and it wasn’t clear whether he fell or had some possible medical issue. The fire department’s technical rescue team got him out of the hole and he was taken to OHSU hospital.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Tallies of the last remaining ballots show an Oregon measure that would require labeling of genetically modified foods lost by only 809 votes and is headed for an automatic recount. Officials released the full statewide count yesterday. A hand tally of ballots is likely to begin the first week in December, after Secretary of State Kate Brown certifies the election results.
