ASTORIA, Ore. (AP) – A woman’s body has been found in a wooded
area of Astoria, and police are awaiting an autopsy to determine
how she died. Astoria Police Deputy Chief Brad Johnston says it’s
too early to know whether the remains belong to Lois White, whose
family reported her missing July 26. White’s family said at the
time that she had gone for a walk and never returned. Forensic
tests to identify the woman could take several weeks. The Daily
Astorian says the remains were found Saturday afternoon by a
neighbor walking through the area.

PORTLAND, Ore (AP) – The body of a man was recovered Sunday
morning from the Willamette River. The Multnomah County Sheriff’s
Office says in a press release that the body was recovered near
Terminal 1 in Portland. The sheriff’s office says Portland Fire
Bureau personnel on a training outing spotted the body in the
river. The body was turned over to the Multnomah County Medical
Examiner’s Office. The sheriff’s office did not release a name
while it worked to identify the dead man and notify survivors.

COOS BAY, Ore. (AP) – Three men have been rescued from waters
near Coos Bay Sunday morning after a fishing boat hit the ground in
shallow waters and began sinking. The Oregonian reports the Coast
Guard responded to a mayday call from a 57-foot wooden fishing boat
at 5:20 a.m. yesterday. The boat hit the ground about 800 yards
north of the North Jetty. The men were taken to the Coast Guard’s
North Bend station.
