SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Forecasters expect more freezing rain this morning in the central and south Willamette Valley including Corvallis and Salem as well as the eastern part of the central Coast Range. Another quarter-inch of ice could be added on top of yesterday’s ice before temperatures rise above freezing this afternoon in that area.

SISTERS, Ore. (AP) – The search for a missing climber who fell on Middle Sister has been suspended because of dangerous weather conditions. The Lane County sheriff’s office says freezing rain, snow and white-out conditions on the 10,047-foot mountain prevented searchers from reaching the climber yesterday. Deputies say the search for Benjamin Newkirk of Bend will resume when the weather improves.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The second open enrollment period for buying health insurance under the federal Affordable Care Act starts tomorrow. It marks the moment when Oregon will begin using the federal exchange portal instead of the state’s failed Cover Oregon website. Oregon abandoned its exchange in April after determining it was cheaper to switch to the federal site than to fix Cover Oregon.

VANCOUVER, Wash. (AP) – A Portland man has been sentenced to 120 days in jail for stealing artwork from a 91-year-old Vancouver woman who has dementia. The Columbian says John Kalamafoni’s girlfriend Toakase Tovo was sentenced to 14 months in prison last month. Tovo worked as the in-home care provider for Margaret Sotta. The couple was accused of stealing about $320,000 worth of Native American artwork from Sotta’s home and sold it in the Portland area.
