PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – LaMarcus Aldridge had 20 points and the Portland Trail Blazers led by as many as 27 points on the way to a 108-87 rout of the Dallas Mavericks last night. Portland trailed the Mavericks 50-46 at the half but outscored them 35-18 in the third quarter and Dallas couldn’t catch up. Damian Lillard added 18 points.
SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) – Alex Edler and Nick Bonino scored second-period goals and Ryan Miller preserved the lead through the final second as the Vancouver Canucks beat the San Jose Sharks 3-2 lastnight. The Canucks got off to a good start on their three-game California swing that finishes with games at Los Angeles and Anaheim during the weekend.
SEATTLE (AP) – Washington coach Chris Petersen has dismissed standout cornerback Marcus Peters from the program just two days before the Huskies face No. 18 UCLA. Peters was the only upperclassman starter in Washington’s young secondary, which now could have two true freshmen starting at cornerback Saturday against the Bruins. He’s had run-ins with Petersen and the Huskies coaching staff throughout the season.
SITKA, Alaska (AP) – The Sitka School District has reached a settlement that will give the high school baseball and softball teams equitable time to practice and play at the city-owned field. The superintendent told the school board this week that an agreement had been signed with the person who filed the complaint under a federal anti-discrimination law. The softball coach said he was excited the teams would get equal time.
