SEATTLE (AP) – Shaq Thompson’s performance as a running back for Washington against Colorado didn’t get him a Pac-12 player of the week nod. It was good enough that Thompson is expected to get a third straight start at running back when the Huskies host No. 18 UCLA on Saturday. Washington coach Chris Petersen said Thompson would play some on defense after being strictly an offensive player the past two weeks.
SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) – Washington State quarterback Connor Halliday broke his ankle in Saturday’s loss to Southern California and is out for the rest of the season. That’s according to football coach Mike Leach yesterday. Halliday, the nation’s passing leader, broke his ankle in the first quarter of Saturday’s 44-17 loss to the Trojans. Halliday had surgery Saturday and remains in the hospital.
UNDATED (AP) – Midway through the 2014 season, running quarterbacks continue to make an impact. Russell Wilson of Seattle, Colin Kaepernick of San Francisco and Ryan Tannehill of Miami are all on pace for career highs in rushing yardage while averaging more than 5 yards per carry.
DENVER (AP) – Darren Collison scored 21 points, including three free throws in the final 16.2 seconds, and the Sacramento Kings held off the Denver Nuggets 110-105 last night. DeMarcus Cousins added 19 points and Reggie Evans grabbed 14 rebounds as the Kings started the season 3-1 for the first time since 2010-11. Sacramento showed no signs of fatigue after beating the Clippers the day before in Los Angeles.
