GRANTS PASS, Ore. (AP) – Supporters of ballot measures to legalize marijuana in Oregon and Alaska are focusing on young voters, who are considered more likely than others to favor legal pot, but less likely to cast a ballot. Ethan Nadelmann is head of Drug Policy Action, a major contributor in the national campaign to legalize marijuana. He says in Oregon he is confident that if as many young voters turn out as did for the 2012 presidential election, legalization will pass.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – The Oregon secretary of state’s office says today is the last day for residents to put their ballots in the mail if they want them to arrive in time for Tuesday’s election. An election day postmark isn’t enough. Ballots have to be received in the elections office by 8 p.m. Tuesday to be counted.

NEW ORLEANS (AP) – An advocacy group says consumers can’t be sure what kind of shrimp they’re buying if they simply look at the label or menu at supermarkets, grocers and restaurants across the nation. Oceana did a DNA-based survey of shrimp sold at outlets nationwide, including Portland. The group says it found about 30 percent of 143 shrimp products it obtained from 111 vendors were not what the label said.

CLACKAMAS, Ore. (AP) – A Clackamas woman says she was horrified when she found a portion of a neighbor cat’s body in her backyard. The Oregonian reports that she told sheriff’s officers that it appeared someone had used a knife to cut the cat in two. Deputies say the neighbors confirmed the body was that of their cat, Dexter.
