OREGON CITY, Ore. (AP) – A reward for information leading to an arrest in the murder of an Oregon weighmaster has been increased to $25,000. Clackamas County commissioners yesterday upped the reward for 42-year-old Dirck White in the Feb. 6 shooting death of Grady Waxenfelter. The man was killed while conducting a traffic stop on a commercial truck near Boring, Oregon. At the time of the shooting, White was sought on a Pierce County, Washington, weapons charge warrant.

GOLD BEACH, Ore. (AP) – A mushroom hunter discovered a human skeleton in the woods along the Chetco River in southwestern Oregon. Curry County deputies say a search of the area turned up an ID, but the person named had never been reported missing. There were also a backpack, clothing and a bicycle nearby. The remains have been turned over to a state medical examiner to see if a cause of death can be determined.

GOLD BEACH, Ore. (AP) – Curry County has declared a state of emergency for the weekend storm that caused more than $1 million in damages to the port of Port Orford. The declaration would open the way to state and federal help in repairing the damages. High winds and large waves pounded the port on Saturday.

UNDATED (AP) — Mississippi State, Florida State, Auburn and Mississippi are the top four teams in the first College Football Playoff rankings. Oregon was fifth in the first of seven Top 25 rankings done by a 12-member selection committee that will pick the four teams to play in the national semifinals. It also will set the matchups for other four marquee New Year’s Day bowls that are part of the playoff rotation.
