SAN FRANCISCO (AP) – The Pac-12 has passed sweeping changes for athletes in all of the conference’s sports, guaranteeing four-year scholarships, improving health care and liberalizing transfer rules. The changes announced by the Pac-12’s presidents and chancellors yesterday include many of the same proposals outlined in a letter to university leaders in the five major football conferences in May.

VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) – Vancouver Canucks will continue their three-game homestand on Tuesday against Carolina. The Canucks had a 4-2 victory over the Capitals on Sunday.

MARTINSVILLE, Va. (AP) – When NASCAR chairman Brian France revealed the changes to the championship format, he vowed that winning would be the most important element to the Sprint Cup title. Yet here we are in late October and Sunday’s race winner at Martinsville Speedway won’t win the championship. Dale Earnhardt Jr., a four-time race winner this season, was eliminated from the Chase for the Sprint Cup championship last week.

BEND, Ore. (AP) – One duck hunter accidentally shot another in the leg as the men from Bend climbed over a downed tree while returning to their car Sunday along the Deschutes River near Sunriver. The Deschutes County sheriff’s office says 22-year-old Jesse Derrick shot 21-year-old Colton Nye in the back of his leg at close range with a 12-gauge shotgun.
