PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A strong fall storm has drenched Portland in record rain and triggered a sewer overflow into the Willamette River. The National Weather Service reports that rainfall at Portland International Airport hit 1.8 inches by last evening, eclipsing the old mark for the day of 1.31 inches set in 1951. Wind gusts on the north Oregon coast included 66 mph at Cape Meares. Portland officials warned the public to avoid contact with the Willamette River for at least the next 48 hours.

NORTH BEND, Ore. (AP) – Police in North Bend say a man’s body has been recovered from Coos Bay after a vehicle went into the bay near a bridge last evening. The World newspaper reports that Coast Guard and local fire personnel responded and found the body near a vehicle in the water below the McCullough Bridge. Police Chief Robert Kappelman said a vehicle went off a work platform under the bridge.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A new analysis shows Oregon trails only California and Colorado in terms of spending on TV ads for ballot measures this election cycle. The Center for Public Integrity says Oregon measures have generated $7.7 million in TV spending through Monday. Just over $5 million is tied to Measure 92, which would require the labeling of genetically engineered foods sold in Oregon.

ONTARIO, Calif. (AP) – Rookie Julius Randle scored 11 of his 17 points in the fourth quarter in the Los Angeles Lakers’ 94-86 victory over the Portland Trail Blazers in a preseason game last night. C.J. McCollum scored 17 points and Meyers Leonard added 13 for the Trail Blazers, who rested four starters.
