ASHLAND, Ore. (AP) – A black bear cub found wandering the aisles of an Oregon drugstore will be raised with the goal of releasing him into the wild next year. The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife officials say rehabilitation staff care for bears with hands-off methods designed to mimic conditions in the wild, and they maintain an animal’s fear of people. The department says they hope to release the bear somewhere in southern Oregon next spring.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) – The National Park Service says vandalism has been found within five western national parks and officials are investigating vandalism reports at five other parks. Park Service spokesman says the vandalism has been confirmed in Yosemite and Death Valley National Parks in California; Canyonlands and Zion in Utah; and Crater Lake in Oregon.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A Romanian princess who helped run a cockfighting enterprise in Oregon has been sentenced to three years of probation and won’t have to go to prison. Irina Walker and her husband, a former sheriff’s deputy, got the same sentence. Both apologized in court.

PENDLETON, Ore. (AP) – A city in northern Oregon has been reduced to using a van as its sole library after a blueprint mix-up shut down a newly built $1.2 million facility. The new library had been open for less than a month before the wall it shares with City Hall was found to be a fire hazard. The East Oregonian reports the City of Irrigon and the Oregon Trail Library District are negotiating.
