Siuslaw football standout Maverick Michael is Coast Radio Sports’ Athlete of the week. The senior tight end and linebacker caught a 17-yard touchdown pass, recovered two fumbles, and contributed several key tackles in the Vikings’ victory over the Douglas Trojans.

Honorable mention is given to Viking Wide Receiver and defensive back Scott Gordon who also contributed several key tackles and caught four passes for 83 yards.

Sailors Sweep Mt. West Playoff

The Mapleton Sailors claimed fourth place outright in the Mountain West volleyball standings last night with a pair of league playoff wins in Florence. The Sailors opened the evening with a tough four-game win over Alsea. Then they took a 30-minute breather and came back to beat Siletz Valley, also in four games. Katie Dearman had 27 assists and five kills; Olivia Nichol had nine kills and nine aces. Alsea and Siletz will square off Thursday evening in Siletz with the winner of that match facing the Sailors once again, this time Saturday in the Mountain West tournament.

Vikings clinch 2nd in Far West with forfeit win

No Viking volleyball last night… the South Umpqua Lancers cancelled their regularly schedule match, taking a forfeit. The Vikings’ win clinched second place in the Far West League outright. The Lady Vikings will end the regular season at home this evening against North Bend.
