Prep Football Results: Vikings post win in Winston

The Siuslaw Vikings struggled at times, but in the end were able to post a convincing 41-12 win over the Douglas Trojans for their first Far West football victory of the season Friday night in Winston. In other games, North Bend rolled over Brookings-Harbor 51-7 and Marshfield edged South Umpqua 21-20. The Bulldogs and the Pirates square off Friday in Coos Bay to determine the league title. The Vikings wrap up the regular season Friday night at home against Brookings and have a chance to back into the OSAA playoffs with a win.

In the Mountain West, the Mapleton Sailors fell to North Douglas 44-20 Friday in Drain. The Sailors wrap up the regular season at home Friday against Triangle Lake.

Ducks Down Dawgs; Improve to #6

Freshman Royce Freeman ran for 169 yards and four touchdowns and Oregon extended its win streak over Washington to 11 straight games with a 45-20 victory Saturday in Eugene. The Ducks went up in the rankings to number six overall… They’ll face Cal Friday night at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California.

Oregon State had Saturday off… they’ll be at Stanford this weekend.

Prep volleyball:

The Siuslaw Vikings are on the road for Far West League action this evening against the South Umpqua Lancers in Myrtle Creek. They’ll finish the regular season tomorrow at home against North Bend.

The Mapleton Sailors will play in a three-way Mountain West League playoff this evening at Siuslaw High School. The Sailors, Siletz and Alsea are tied for fourth place. Mapleton opens the evening with a game against Alsea. Then, the winner of that game will face Siletz immediately after.

The winner of game two will take the fourth place seed in Saturday’s Mountain West Volleyball Tournament in Junction City. The loser of tonight’s game one will take on the loser of game two Thursday with the winner of that contest advancing to Saturday’s tournament.
