PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Gov. John Kitzhaber is once again defending his fiancee’s work for organizations seeking to influence state policy. The Democratic governor debated Republican state Rep. Dennis Richardson last night. Richardson tried to keep the focus on the intersection between Hayes’ consulting business and her role as first lady. Kitzhaber has said she won’t do any more work for his administration until the questions are resolved.

GRESHAM, Ore. (AP) – Police in the east Portland suburb of Gresham say they’re looking for the 36-year-old nephew of a woman found fatally stabbed in her home and also consider the man a suspect in a bank robbery in Canby. Detectives are trying to locate Teddy Stivahtis Jr., who is considered a suspect in the Oct. 10 murder of 70-year-old Deanna Stivahtis.

ONTARIO, Ore. (AP) – The Malheur County sheriff’s office says two people have been found dead in the eastern Oregon community of Ontario. KTVB-TV reports that Sheriff Brian Wolfe said two deputies found the bodies in a bedroom late yesterday afternoon after a neighbor asked for a welfare check at the home. Undersheriff Travis Johnson says the department is investigating the case as a possible murder-suicide.

MILWAUKIE, Ore. (AP) – Firefighters in the Portland suburb of Milwaukie have rescued a woman from a house fire. A Clackamas Fire District 1 spokesman said the woman was taken to a hospital late yesterday afternoon in serious condition.
