SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Oregon Gov. John Kitzhaber’s fiancee says she lived in 1997 on a property that was intended to be used for a marijuana growing operation. Cylvia Hayes says in her statement that the marijuana grow never materialized, but the man who sold the property in Okanogan, Washington, told The Oregonian and KOIN that he found evidence that it did.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Gov. John Kitzhaber has urged voters to approve a measure that would grant driving privileges to Oregonians who can’t prove legal presence in the U.S. At a rally yesterday Kitzhaber said the issue isn’t just about safety on roads but is part of the state’s commitment to equity. The Legislature approved them last year, but the law is on hold.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – An Oregon ballot measure on the labeling of genetically modified foods is starting to attract big money. The two opposing camps combined have reported contributions of more than $12 million – $5 million by labeling proponents, more than $7 million by opponents. Similar measures in California and in Washington state failed narrowly in recent years after millions of dollars were spent, mostly by labeling opponents. Ballots go out this week.

ROSEBURG, Ore. (AP) – The search is being scaled back for a hunter lost since Thursday in rugged country southeast of Roseburg. The Douglas County sheriff’s office says 20-year-old Travis Anderson of Myrtle Creek was last heard from Thursday afternoon. The sheriff’s office says the search continues, but operations are being scaled back until new information turns up.
