PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – An Oregon public health physician says four children in the state have been confirmed as having contracted a severe strain of enterovirus. Three of them were in Multnomah County and the other was in central Oregon’s Deschutes County. The Oregonian reports all four were so sick they were treated in intensive care. The cases of enterovirus 68 are the first confirmed in Oregon.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The Obama administration has given Oregon schools a one-year reprieve in complying with rules for evaluating teachers under the No Child Left Behind law. In Oregon, teachers are allowed to decide which test scores or other student results will be measured. But the U.S. Department of Education said that for 2015-2016, Oregon will need more stringent guidelines.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The state Department of Education has given Oregon public schools their report cards, and some show marked improvement. The Oregonian reports 28 schools rose from the ranks of worst performers, and 49 more were ranked as top performers. But 19 others fell to the bottom rankings.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The fiancee of Oregon Gov. John Kitzhaber has admitted that she violated the law when she married an immigrant seeking to retain residency in the United States. Cylvia Hayes says she was paid around $5,000 for the 1997 marriage. Hayes says she did not tell the governor about the marriage until a reporter from the Willamette Week newspaper began asking questions this week.
