PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – If you purchased caffeine-infused underwear because of promises it will make you thinner, federal regulators say you were hoodwinked – but at least you can get your money back. Two companies have agreed to refund $1.5 million to consumers. Federal officials say there’s no scientific evidence to back up the companies’ claims.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The U.S. Department of Energy says it’s restoring control over hiring decisions to the Bonneville Power Administration – authority it took away from the power-marketing agency in the wake of a hiring scandal. The government had released findings about hiring practices that disadvantaged veterans and about retaliation against whistleblowers. Last October, the Department of Energy assumed control of the agency’s human resources and legal staffs, including ultimate authority over the agency’s hiring process.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Police in Portland say they chased down a stolen doughnut delivery van and arrested the sticky-fingered driver. After a short pursuit, police say the driver pulled over and the officer ordered him to put both hands out the window. As he did so, police say, he dropped a pastry to the ground. The real driver was taken to reclaim the Donut Land van.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A homeless sex offender who had been accused of raping a woman newly arrived in Portland has been sentenced to more than six years in prison. The Oregonian reports that 47-year-old Clarence Williams pleaded no contest earlier this month.
