PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Officials investigating the case of a pit bull that mauled a small dog to death on a Portland streetcar say the pit bull was reported missing last June by its Colorado owner. The Oregonian reports that Multnomah County Animal Services Director Mike Oswald says his agency contacted the owner after finding a microchip. The dog is being held at a county shelter during the investigation of the attack that killed a Pomeranian on Wednesday night.

HILLSBORO, Ore. (AP) – A man accused of beating and stabbing his ex-girlfriend to death in her Hillsboro apartment as their 2-year-old daughter cried has pleaded not guilty to a murder charge. Prosecutors say Eric Petersen killed Aimee Zdrantan in August while he was on work release from the Washington County Community Corrections Facility.

MILWAUKIE, Ore. (AP) – The Clackamas County sheriff’s office says a man is critically injured after a stabbing last night at a Milwaukie apartment. The victim was found bleeding in the parking lot. Deputies found the knife and detained his roommate as the suspect.

SUNRIVER, Ore. (AP) – Gov. John Kitzhaber and state Rep. Dennis Richardson are preparing for their second debate of the campaign for Oregon governor. The candidates will meet today in Sunriver at a forum sponsored by the Oregon Association of Broadcasters.
