TORONTO (AP) – Logan Morrison hit two home runs, Mike Zunino also connected and the Seattle Mariners kept their faint playoff hopes alive, beating the Toronto Blue Jays 7-5 yesterday. Morrison hit a three-run blast off Todd Redmond in the fourth and added a solo shot off Aaron Loup (4-4) in the sixth as the Mariners avoided a four-game sweep.

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) – Adrian Beltre hit a walk-off homer in the ninth inning, and the Texas Rangers kept Oakland from getting closer to clinching an AL wild-card spot with a 2-1 victory against the Athletics last night. The A’s, who started the day tied with Kansas City for the wild-card lead, have lost seven of 10.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) – The playoff-bound San Francisco Giants blew a six-run lead, and then rallied for a 9-8 victory over the San Diego Padres last night to stay within one game of Pittsburgh for the top spot in the NL wild-card standings. The Giants (86-73) kept pace with Pittsburgh (87-72) after the Pirates won 10-1 at Atlanta to pull within one game of first-place St. Louis in the NL Central.

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) – USA Track and Field has submitted a bid to host the 2019 world championships in Eugene, Oregon. If selected, this would be the first time the track competition has been held in the U.S. since the event began in 1983. Barcelona, Spain, and Doha, Qatar, are also up for consideration. The International Association of Athletic Federations council will make a decision Nov. 18 in Monaco.
