SALEM, Ore. (AP) – A national gun-control group says Oregon Gov. John Kitzhaber is one of two politicians at the heart of its first foray into the 2014 election season. Everytown for Gun Safety said it will air television ads in the Portland market featuring Paul Kemp, the brother-in-law of Clackamas Town Center shooting victim Steve Forsyth. Kemp calls for expanded background checks on gun buyers and says he’s supporting Kitzhaber.

GRANTS PASS, Ore. (AP) – Oregon State Police have identified a man who died after holing up inside a Grants Pass home during a standoff in which both he and city police fired shots. State Police said the man was 29-year-old Daniel Diaz of Grants Pass. An autopsy is scheduled.

OREGON CITY, Ore. (AP) – An Oregon City man accused of firing a .45-caliber handgun through his front door, hitting the house across the street, has been arraigned on reckless endangering and related charges. No one was injured. The Oregonian reports that 31-year-old Robert Fear’s next court appearance is set for Oct. 21.

BAKER CITY, Ore. (AP) – Authorities say human bones have been found along with clothing and a backpack in Baker County and appear to be those of someone who died up to two years ago of a non-violent cause. The Baker City Herald reports that authorities have a tentative identification, but relatives haven’t been notified. The sheriff’s office says it is awaiting results of an autopsy.
