COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. (AP) – Police in Cottage Grove say one of its officers shot an armed man in the foot in a confrontation. Police Chief Mike Grover tells the Register-Guard that the man was armed with two knives Saturday night. He was taken a hospital in Springfield with injuries there were not life-threatening.

WARRENTON, Ore. (AP) – The Coast Guard says it has rescued two people from a sinking boat near Long Beach, Washington. The Guard said yesterday that the 21-foot pleasure craft became disabled and began taking on water. The two people on board put on life jackets as the Coast Guard in nearby Warrenton, Oregon, dispatched a motor boat and helicopter. The weather was reported as 18 mph winds and 6-foot seas.

ALBANY, Ore. (AP) – The Linn County district attorney has cleared a Springfield police officer who shot a 44-year-old woman after she pointed a realistic-looking pellet gun at officers following a car chase last month. District Attorney Doug Marteeny says Justin Myers was justified when he shot Amanda Gatewood on Aug. 28. Police say the Springfield woman was driving a stolen car and led police on a chase.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The leadership of Oregon’s largest agencies has quietly convened high-level meetings to discuss how to deal with an upcoming marijuana legalization measure. The legalization measure would touch every corner of state government, from the Oregon State Police to the Oregon Liquor Control Commission. OLCC spokeswoman Christie Scott says the agencies are trying to prepare for quick changes should the measure pass in November.
