PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Crews are making progress against a wildfire southeast of Estacada. The fire has burned across about 5 ½ square miles and is about 7 percent contained. The Oregonian reports that so far no structures have been lost. The fire is burning through grass and timber in a national forest about 10 miles from Estacada. The town is not considered threatened.

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – A Portland teen is accused of raping and beating a woman in Eugene after slipping away from a supervised outing that took young offenders to see a University of Oregon football game. Washington County authorities, who were supervising the teen, notified police when the boy couldn’t be found. He was arrested in the area of the reported attack.

DALLAS, Ore. (AP) – The young homeless man who accompanied Miley Cyrus to the MTV Video Music Awards arrived 45 minutes late for his arraignment on a charge that he violated his probation in Oregon. Jesse Helt didn’t enter a plea and he’s due back in court next month. He declined to speak with a reporter and flipped off the media as he was driven away from the courthouse.

BEAVERTON, Ore. (AP) – LeBron James was at Nike’s corporate headquarters in Beaverton yesterday for the unveiling of his new shoe, the LeBron 12. It is his first new shoe with Nike since he returned this summer to the Cleveland Cavaliers. The shoe features multicolored hexagonal cushions on the soles.
