Here is the latest Oregon news from The Associated Press

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Forecasters say a combination of gusty winds and low humidity are creating a high wildfire danger through this evening west of the Cascades in much of western Washington and Oregon. A red flag warning is in effect in the area from Seattle through Eugene. It’s a different story east of the Cascades where forecasters say temperatures will drop below freezing tonight in some places.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A judge in Portland has set bail at $10 million each for the meth-addicted parents accused of murder by abuse in the death of their newborn baby girl. The Oregonian reports Sarah and Jamie Mangus are scheduled for trial in April in Multnomah County. They also are charged with manslaughter in the death last April of the girl who lived about 12 hours.

WICHITA, Kan. (AP) – A potential settlement appears to be in the works on some claims in lawsuits over the 2013 discovery of genetically engineered Monsanto wheat in an Oregon field. Federal Judge Kathryn Vratil in Kansas has given the parties until Sept. 29 to file stipulations of dismissal of claims brought by growers of soft white wheat.

VALE, Ore. (AP) – A treatment plant designed in 2005 to extract arsenic from the water in the Eastern Oregon town Vale isn’t working. City officials say they’ve shut down the two wells that contribute the most arsenic to the water supply in the town of 2,000 people, along with the plant. A nearby town, Nyssa, is now planning to build a plant to treat for arsenic. Both are near Ontario.
