TACOMA, Wash. (AP) – Authorities say a second Northwest child has died after contracting an E. coli infection. Relatives say 3-year-old Brooklyn Hoksbergen of Lynden, Washington, died last Friday in a Seattle hospital. A 5-year-old being treated for E. coli remains in critical condition in a Tacoma hospital. He attended the same Labor Day weekend gathering in Lincoln County on the Oregon coast as 4-year-old Serena Profitt of Otis, Oregon. She died Monday evening in Portland.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Washington County prosecutors have dropped charges against a local activist who was cited and fined for hanging homemade warning signs at Hagg Lake where four members of a family drowned last month. The DA’s Office said yesterday it won’t prosecute 66-year-old Michael Medill of Gaston after county officials asked the charges be dismissed. The county is installing permanent signs this week.

HILLSBORO, Ore. (AP) – Prosecutors say the former manager of a Beaverton strip club has pleaded guilty to hiring a 13-year-old girl to dance nude and have sex with customers. The Oregonian reports that Steven Toth will be sentenced next week as part of a plea deal. Police say the girl was a runaway.

MEDFORD, Ore. (AP) – A former gymnastics coach in Southern Oregon is now facing federal child pornography charges in addition to the state charges he was arrested on two years ago. The Mail Tribune reports a federal indictment in Medford charges 55-year-old Jeffrey Scott Bettman with 11 counts of using a minor to depict sexually explicit conduct, and one count each of receiving and possessing child pornography.
