MEDFORD, Ore. (AP) – A Medford teen indicted on an attempted murder charge is accused of trying to shoot a man in a fight over a girl, then pistol-whipping him when the gun misfired. Medford police say 17-year-old Shylo Ramirez will be tried as an adult. Police say the 18-year-old victim agreed to meet with Ramirez to discuss his girlfriend, who was also Ramirez’ former girlfriend. According to the police account, when Ramirez got there, he pulled out a pistol and pointed it at the victim’s head, then beat him with it.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Oregon’s gubernatorial candidates have finalized plans for a debate in Portland. Democratic Gov. John Kitzhaber and Republican state Rep. Dennis Richardson will square off Oct. 14. The debate is sponsored by KGW-TV and The Oregonian.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The Oregon Transportation Department says a 16-block section of a major northeast Portland street will be closed for several days to repair road damage caused by a water main break. The break occurred on Northeast Sandy Boulevard at Northeast 138th. A Transportation Department spokeswoman says Portland Water Bureau crews are on scene repairing the water main.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Police say a New York man who coached aerial acrobatics students this summer in Portland has been arrested on an indictment accusing him of sexually abusing a 17-year-old student during his time in Oregon. The Oregonian reports that 34-year-old Benjamin Mendoza was arrested Tuesday. It was not known late yesterday whether Mendoza had a lawyer.
