SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Silverton police say a 43-year-old man and the woman he’s suspected of killing last weekend were a long-time couple. Police say that Jason Down lived with Cassandra Wagner for years before she got a restraining order against him in August. Saturday afternoon, Silverton police got a shooting report and found the 50-year-old Wagner dead. Down hasn’t been charged in the killing.

BEND, Ore. (AP) – A defendant in the 2001 Redmond Five murder case will return to a Central Oregon courtroom in April to be sentenced again. Justin Link, now, 31, was serving life without the possibility of parole for killing Barbara Thomas, 52, of Redmond. Link was among five teenagers convicted in the case. The Bend Bulletin reports that his lawyers will seek a lighter sentence, citing a 2012 U.S. Supreme Court ruling that said mandatory life sentences without the possibility for parole are cruel and unusual punishment for juveniles.

LEXINGTON, Ore. (AP) – Authorities in Eastern Oregon say a fire that raced through a stubble field destroyed a single-wide mobile home in Morrow County, and they’re seeking a small, white car seen leaving the area. The East Oregonian reports the fire was driven by wind gusts of 25 mph. It also burned two sheds, five vehicles and some farm equipment.

WINSTON, Ore. (AP) – Authorities in Douglas County say an 11-year-old-girl has apparently drowned in a bathtub. Winston Police told the Roseburg News-Review the girl was found about Tuesday night and was unresponsive. Authorities did not immediately release her name. An autopsy is planned.
