PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Prominent Portland businessman Robert Keys has pleaded guilty to fraud and money laundering. The former head of the Private Consulting Group in Portland faces about five years in federal prison when he is sentenced on Jan. 20. The Oregonian reports Keys helped set up a $1.1 million loan from a wealthy widow in The Dalles to an east-coast businessman. Keys didn’t tell the woman he was going to get a $150,000 kickback or that he was counting on the businessman to bail him out of failed real estate deals.

ASTORIA, Ore. (AP) – Oregon Fish and Wildlife troopers have cited an Astoria man, saying he used an illegal 1,200-foot gillnet to catch nearly 750 pounds of Chinook salmon on the Columbia River near the Willamette River. Troopers say they came across 66-year-old Duffy Duncan during a nighttime boat patrol last Thursday. Troopers say they determined that Duncan’s net mesh size was illegal and he was in possession of 44 Chinook salmon caught in the unlawful net.

SANDY, Ore. (AP) – A memorial service is being held today for the 9-year-old girl who died in a cave-in on a Lincoln City beach. The Oregonian reports the service for Isabel Grace Franks of Sandy is at 5 p.m. at the Abundant Life Church in Sandy. The first rescuer on the scene Friday says she was buried about five minutes and had suffocated by the time she was dug out.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Republican Rep. Greg Walden and Democratic former Gov. Barbara Roberts are scheduled to speak at today’s public memorial service for former Oregon Gov. Vic Atiyeh. Atiyeh died July 20 at the age of 91. He served two terms as governor beginning in 1979, and was the last Republican to hold the position. The memorial will be held in the House of Representatives chamber at the state Capitol in Salem.
