Number three ranked Oregon easily got past South Dakota 62-13, Saturday night, to open the college football season. The night before, the defending Big-Ten champion Michigan State Spartans took care of Jacksonville State 45-7 to open their season.

Now, the real challenge for both the Ducks and the number eight Spartans will come Saturday afternoon at Autzen Stadium.

Beavers start slow, finish with win over Portland State

Oregon State struggled in the first half against Portland State Saturday afternoon in Corvallis, but capitalized on five Vikings turnovers in the third quarter to bounce back for a 29-14 victory. They’ll travel to Honolulu Saturday where they’ll take on the Warriors.

Northwest League baseball wrapping up

The Eugene Emeralds will wrap up play in the Northwest League season this evening in Hillsboro. The Ems are on another three-game skid. They fell at home Friday to Vancouver, 4-2; then the Hops beat them Saturday and Sunday one-nothing and 7-1.
