PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A gunman shot and seriously wounded a Klamath County sheriff’s deputy yesterday during a traffic stop, and police are looking for a suspect in a black Jeep Cherokee. Officials say the deputy was hit in the face and taken first to a Klamath Falls medical center, then flown to OHSU Hospital in Portland. His name has not been released. The sheriff said the deputy was in serious condition last night.

OREGON CITY, Ore. (AP) – A fire district spokesman says at least two firefighters were knocked backward by flames as they battled a three-alarm fire at an Oregon City strip mall. Clackamas Fire District 1 says that thanks to their protective suits, the firefighters suffered just minor injuries yesterday. The Oregonian reports that crews had pushed through a door, allowing fresh oxygen to rush in and stoke the flames.

OAKRIDGE, Ore. (AP) – Wildfires in Oregon’s Willamette National Forest have sparked spot fires and sent up smoke that produced unhealthy air quality in eastern Lane County in the Willamette Valley. Smoke from the fires was reported in central Oregon as well. Smoke was expected to be an issue again today.

HOOD RIVER, Ore. (AP) – Law officers briefly shut down the Hood River toll bridge last night after a bomb threat was received. Hood River police say that after the threat was phoned into dispatchers around 10 p.m., law officers blocked both ends of the span while authorities inspected the bridge. Police say no explosives were found and no suspects were located.
