PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A federal appeals court has dismissed the National Organization for Marriage’s effort to appeal an Oregon court ruling that allows same sex marriage. Several same-sex couples sued the state of Oregon last year arguing the ban on same-sex marriage is unconstitutional. Attorney General Ellen Rosenblum refused to defend it. The National Organization for Marriage, which opposes same-sex unions, had asked to offer a defense of the ban on behalf of its members in Oregon. But a judge ruled they lacked standing to intervene in the case.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – About 1,400 Oregonians will have to re-enroll in health care because they were incorrectly enrolled in Medicaid. The Oregonian reports Cover Oregon will hold a special sign-up period starting Sunday for those who were incorrectly enrolled the Oregon Health Plan, the state’s version of Medicaid, even though their income was too high.

HILLSBORO, Ore. (AP) – Local officials have approved a tax break for Intel that could be worth about $2 billion during its expansion in Washington County west of Portland. The Oregonian reports that Intel is the state’s largest private employer, with 17,500 employees. Some residents and tax watchdogs objected to the tax breaks, but they had support from local officials.

JEFFERSON, Ore. (AP) – Firefighters in Marion County say a state-owned island in the Santiam River is expected to burn for several days, creating heavy smoke. The Jefferson Fire District said firefighters are unable to reach the wildfire on Wiseman Island. The fire department says no structures are threatened, and there have been no injuries.
