The Vancouver Canadians notched six stolen bases and ran away with a 3-1 Northwest League victory over the Eugene Emeralds last night at PK Park. The Canucks got on the board early, scoring two runs in the first inning, partly with the assistance of the first Emeralds’ error. The scoring was capped in the ninth on Eugene’s fourth error of the night.

Game two of five between the two teams is set for this evening in Eugene.

Mariota Sticks Around

Marcus Mariota is taking a lot of ribbing over his course load this semester: yoga and golf. But the light schedule means he’ll be able to focus a lot more on football for the third-ranked Ducks.

Mariota averaged nearly 282 yards passing per game and threw for 31 touchdowns with only four interceptions as an early Heisman contender last season. He also rushed for 715 yards and nine scores. All the while taking 20 units toward his science degree, with an eye on graduating early. He could have left this season for the NFL, but Mariota opted to stick with the Ducks and is one big reason why they’re favored to win the Pac-12 title this season. Oregon opens at home Saturday night against South Dakota.
