Here is the latest Washington, Oregon and Alaska sports news from The Associated Press

SEATTLE (AP) – Miles Mikolas allowed three hits in eight scoreless innings, J.P. Arencibia singled home the go-ahead run in the fourth and the Texas Rangers opened a three-game set against the Seattle Mariners with a 2-0 win last night. Seattle starter Roenis Elias struggled with command, walking four, but was able to limit the Rangers to one run in five innings. The rookie stranded runners in scoring position in three innings before giving way to the bullpen after tossing 101 pitches.

SEATTLE (AP) – Seattle Mariners second baseman Robinson Cano started last night, a day after removing himself from a game during an inning after feeling ill. Manager Lloyd McClendon confirmed that Cano was feeling better and that nobody else caught the illness. Cano leads the Mariners with a .326 batting average and is reaching base at a clip of .394.

RENTON, Wash. (AP) – There is no hiding the grin on Seattle Seahawks’ Percy Harvin’s face these days. After a difficult two seasons that saw Harvin miss 23 games overall due to ankle and hip injuries, Harvin is fully healthy once again and looks ready to explode this season.

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – The Oregon Ducks open at home Saturday night against South Dakota. Marcus Mariota’s light course schedule means he’ll be able to focus more on football for the third-ranked Ducks. Mariota averaged nearly 282 yards passing per game last season. All the while he was taking 20 units toward his science degree, with an eye on graduating early.
