Here is the latest Oregon news from The Associated Press

BEND, Ore. (AP) – Earlier this summer, a Bend teenager sent up an $800 drone to shoot video of a wildfire threatening the city’s western edge. Fourteen-year-old Morgan Tien didn’t get into trouble because his flights didn’t get into restricted airspace. But The Bulletin newspaper reports his flights were among those federal officials cited when they warned that drones at wildfires could be a hazard due to collisions.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Republican Congressman Greg Walden and Democratic former Gov. Barbara Roberts are slated to speak at a memorial next week for former Oregon Gov. Vic Atiyeh. Atiyeh died July 20 at the age of 91. He served two terms as governor beginning in 1979, and was the last Republican to hold the position.

ONTARIO, Ore. (AP) – Oregon state troopers say man driving a car stolen in Pasco attacked a commercial truck driver in eastern Oregon, stabbing the driver multiple times. The truck driver, 63-year-old Charles VanZante of Jerome, Idaho, was flown to a Boise, Idaho, hospital. His injuries were not considered life-threatening. Troopers arrested a man for investigation of attempted murder.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Business owners and the City Council are taking a second look at a decision last fall to open the downtown core in Salem to free, unrestricted parking. The result, say owners, is that parking spots are harder to come by, and they’re losing business. Members of a group against parking meters say parking is sparse because the city hasn’t enforced a law that prohibits downtown employees from parking there during their shifts.
