SALEM, Ore. (AP) – A convicted killer is back in custody after Oregon prison officials realized he was released a month too early. KPTV reports Marc Trice was released from the Oregon State Penitentiary on Monday. He was due for release and post-prison supervision in mid-September. Trice has been in prison since 1994 for killing 16-year-old Sandra Lee Raph in La Grande.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Oregon has created a new committee to clarify the state’s rules around rail transport of hazardous materials, including crude oil. State officials hope to figure out how much information they can legally require railways to disclose. Last month, Governor John Kitzhaber released a review of oil train safety that called for an increase in state rail inspectors, more funding for training, and improved reporting and transparency.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A man who got bucked off a horse while on a guided tour near Pacific City is suing the horse tour company for $137,000. The Oregonian reports the lawsuit says a guide’s horse bit Thomas Williams’ horse, causing Williams’ horse to buck and throw him to the ground. Williams said a guide told him to remount the horse and return to the stable. As Williams climbed back on, the horse bucked again and Williams fell.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Obafemi Martins scored two goals and got an assist for another from Clint Dempsey, and the Seattle Sounders went on to defeat the Portland Timbers 4-2 in a Cascadia Cup rivalry match yesterday. Fanendo Adi scored twice for the Timbers, who were effectively eliminated from the Cup race with the loss.
