BOSTON (AP) – Dustin Ackley had three hits and scored three runs, Seattle’s bullpen was sharp for the second straight day and the Mariners beat Boston 8-6 yesterday for the Red Sox’s eighth straight loss. Ackley had a triple, double and single, finishing 13 for 25 in six games against Boston this season. The Mariners completed their first-ever sweep in a series of three or more games in Fenway Park. Kyle Seager drove in two runs for Seattle.

BOSTON (AP) – Seattle second baseman Robinson Cano has left yesterday’s game against the Red Sox due to dizziness in the bottom of the third inning. Cano, who started the inning at second, walked off the field with manager Lloyd McClendon and was replaced by Brad Miller. The Mariners said he would be evaluated by a doctor. Boston leads 5-3.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Obafemi Martins scored two goals and got an assist for another from Clint Dempsey, and the Seattle Sounders went on to defeat the Portland Timbers 4-2 in a Cascadia Cup rivalry match yesterday. Chad Barrett also scored for the Sounders, who showed little fatigue after five matches in the past 15 days. Fanendo Adi scored twice for the Timbers. The victory moved the Sounders ahead of the Vancouver Whitecaps in the standings for the Pacific Northwest’s Cascadia Cup, the supporter-created rivalry between the three teams.

NORTH PLAINS, Ore. (AP) – Carlos Ortiz won the Portland Open yesterday for his third Web.com Tour victory of the season, making him fully exempt on the 2014-15 PGA Tour. The 23-year-old Ortiz, a former North Texas player from Mexico, closed with an even-par 71 for a one-stroke victory in the regular-season finale. He earned $144,000 to push his tour-leading total to $515,403, with the top 25 on the money list getting PGA Tour cards.
