Here is the latest Oregon news from The Associated Press

SANDY, Ore. (AP) – Water rescue teams have recovered the body of a man who was swept away in the storm-swollen waters of the Sandy River in the Mount Hood area. Clackamas County deputies say the man was on a footbridge over the river when it gave way yesterday afternoon. The Oregonian reports the sheriff’s River Patrol set up rafts and brought 23 stranded hikers across the river.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – An investigation that began when a student snapped a picture of a girl sitting on her teacher’s lap at Liberty High School in Hillsboro resulted in a six-year prison sentence for Gregg Jensen. The 54-year-old teacher pleaded guilty in May to sex abuse charges involving the 16-year-old student. He was sentenced yesterday in Washington County.

OREGON CITY, Ore. (AP) – A Clackamas County grand jury has declined to charge three sheriff’s SWAT team members who shot and killed an armed man during a standoff last month in Molalla. The Oregonian reports deputies had been trying to negotiate with Shane Griffin after he was suspected of assaulting his wife who had fled the home with their children.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Portland police were told there was a chicken – and it was attempting to cross the road. In fact, the citizen who called the police non-emergency line on Monday evening reported that the chicken’s efforts to cross the road were bringing traffic nearly to a standstill. He assured the dispatcher he was not joking. Sgt. Pete Simpson says officers were unable to locate the chicken. And so, he notes, police “were unable to determine the chicken’s intent.”
