SEATTLE (AP) – Forecasters say thunderstorms will flare up in Oregon and Washington again today. Because of the risk that lightning will start more wildfires, the National Weather Service has a red flag warning in effect for most of both states. The thunderstorms also could be accompanied by gusty winds, hail and flash flooding, especially on lands scorched by wildfires.

HILLSBORO, Ore. (AP) – A Sherwood woman convicted of first-degree criminal mistreatment after her children ages 3 and 2 were found wandering outside alone in 90-degree heat has been given a 30-day jail term. The Oregonian reports that Mary Hilliker received credit for jail time already served and was released. She was also ordered to get alcohol and parent counseling and have no contact with her children without permission.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – An Oregon trucker will get her job back after a federal regulator determined she was wrongly fired for refusing to drive an unsafe vehicle. OSHA ordered an independent trucking contractor in Gresham to reinstate the driver who was fired almost three years ago and to pay her back wages.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – The Oregon Department of Agriculture says laboratory tests found no evidence of pesticides in thousands of dead honeybees from Clackamas County. An investigation was prompted by reports in June from four beekeepers who suspected pesticides may have been the reason whole hives suddenly died. The state has been investigating reports of bee deaths since two commercial pesticide spraying cases killed large numbers of bees – one at a shopping mall in Wilsonville and another at an apartment complex in Eugene.
