PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – State prison officials say it’s time to convert the health records of Oregon inmates to an electronic system. Prison health care officials told The Oregonian that the paper files are inefficient, and patients are sometimes turned away because their charts are missing. Prison officials plan to pitch a $3 million plan to the governor’s office this summer to transfer the files to a digital storehouse.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The city of Hillsboro and Washington County have reached a proposed 30-year tax break agreement with the chipmaker Intel, securing the company’s presence in Oregon for years to come. The deal allows Intel to invest up to $100 billion over three decades in semiconductor manufacturing equipment and facilities. Intel will pay taxes on the first $100 million of equipment, but taxes on equipment investments beyond that sum will be abated.
BEAVERTON, Ore. (AP) – Police detectives in Beaverton found a 17-year-old runaway from California while investigating a sex-trafficking operation. Detectives found the girl at a hotel with two women and a man who were involved in sex trafficking along the West Coast. The runaway will be reunited with her family in Stockton.
SPRINGFIELD, Ore. (AP) – The city of Springfield will unveil its mural honoring “The Simpsons” on Aug. 25. The Register-Guard reports that Yeardley Smith – the voice of Lisa Simpson – will be signing autographs and answering questions. Series creator Matt Groening grew up in Portland. He told Smithsonian magazine two years ago he named Springfield after the city in his home state.
