Here is the latest Oregon news from The Associated Press

SEATTLE (AP) – Forecasters say near-record temperatures today in the Northwest will likely be followed by thunderstorms tomorrow that could spark more wildfires. Forecasters predict highs west of the Cascades in Washington and Oregon in the mid-90s. A heat advisory is posted until 9 p.m. for southwest Washington and northwest Oregon. Highs could reach 97 in Portland and 98 at Salem.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The National Weather Service is warning of critical wildfire conditions in Oregon and southwest Washington. The agency issued a “red flag warning” through tomorrow after hot weather increased the risk of thunderstorms. Forecasters say there could be several rounds of thunderstorms tonight.

BOISE, Idaho (AP) – A utility’s survey indicates the population of white sturgeon fish in the Snake River between a dam on the Idaho-Oregon border and another in western Washington state is holding steady. There are about 4,000 of the ancient fish in a 140-mile stretch of river between the dams. The survey is conducted by Idaho Power as part of its federal license to operate hydroelectric dams.

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – The University of Oregon chose to send off its resigning president with a $940,000 settlement after his quick two-year tenure. But it didn’t have to. The settlement money to Michael Gottfredson came from private donors, not tuition or tax dollars. It also guaranteed that Gottfredson will not pursue any legal claims against the university.
