PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The state medical examiner’s office says an Oregon woman missing for nearly two weeks before her body was found along a rural road committed suicide by asphyxiation. Police say toxicology results are not yet available for Jennifer Huston of Dundee. Police say they found an empty box of sleeping aids at the scene. Detectives also found a note addressed to the woman’s family.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A new wildfire pushed by gusting winds is threatening the small Columbia River Gorge community of Rowena, where residents of 275 homes had been told to evacuate as of last night. Fire officials say flames from the fire were visible from The Dalles about 6 miles from the blaze. An unknown number of residents in an outlying Dalles neighborhood were told to be ready to leave if necessary.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – University of Oregon President Michael Gottfredson is stepping down after two years on the job. Gottfredson said in a letter to the chairman of the university’s Board of Trustees that his “scholarly interests beckon,” and he and his wife would like to spend more time with their family. But he does not give a reason for the sudden nature of his departure.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Oregon is getting $1.2 million as part of a $35 million settlement with a pharmaceutical giant over the marketing of one of its drugs. Forty-two states are involved in the settlement with Pfizer Inc. to resolve allegations that Wyeth misrepresented the uses and benefits of the drug Rapamune.
