CRATER LAKE NATIONAL PARK, Ore. (AP) – Crater Lake National Park rangers would like to find a hiker who was seen falling from the caldera rim surrounding the lake. The man disappeared into trees on the slope Friday, and rangers and search and rescue teams searched the area while boats on Crater Lake and a helicopter also looked for him over the weekend. All they found was a pair of sun glasses. The man may have continued north on the Pacific Coast Trail.

KENOSHA, Wisc. (AP) — A former police officer suspected in the deaths of two women whose bodies were found stuffed in suitcases in rural Wisconsin returns to court today to face more charges. Steven Zelich’s attorney says he doesn’t know what the charges will be. Officials said previously that one woman, 19-year-old Jenny Gamez of Cottage Grove, Oregon, died in Kenosha County and they expected homicide charges to be filed there.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – A teenager has drowned in a creek that flows through Salem. Police say divers recovered the body of 16-year-old Matthew Tufts from Mill Creek. Friends said he was last seen Sunday evening getting into the water for a last swim in a stretch of the stream behind a mobile home development.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Gov. John Kitzhaber and his longtime partner Cylvia Hayes are engaged to be married. No wedding date has been set. The marriage will be the third for both the 67-year-old Kitzhaber and Hayes, who’s 46. Kitzhaber refers to Hayes as the “first lady,” and she’s embraced the role of political spouse.
