PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A woman accused of killing her 2-year-old daughter and severely cutting her teenage daughter at a coastal Oregon resort has not yet entered a plea. The Daily Astorian reports a housekeeper found the toddler dead in a room Friday. Police say the older daughter was badly cut and taken to a Portland hospital for surgery. She is expected to recover. Forty-year-old Jessica Smith of Goldendale, Washington was silent at her arraignment.

ROSEBURG, Ore. (AP) – The stepmother of an Oregon boy whose disappearance in 2010 touched off an intense search has failed to persuade a judge to let her change her name. Terri Horman said her life has been threatened and she hasn’t been able to find a job since Kyron Horman vanished from his Portland school. The judge rejected the request, saying it wasn’t in the public interest because an investigation remains open.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – A teenager has drowned in a creek that flows through Salem. Police say divers recovered the body of 16-year-old Matthew Tufts from Mill Creek. Friends said he was last seen Sunday evening getting into the water for a last swim in a stretch of the stream behind a mobile home development.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Oregon Gov. John Kitzhaber and his longtime partner, Cylvia Hayes, are engaged. The governor’s office confirmed that Kitzhaber and Cylvia Hayes have been engaged “for a couple of weeks.” No wedding date has been set. The marriage will be the third for both Kitzhaber, 67, and Hayes, 46.
