The Eugene Emeralds nearly blew a seven run lead last night in the ninth, but ultimately held on for a 10-9 Northwest League win over the Everett Aqua Sox at PK Park. The Ems led 10-3 headed into the final frame, but the Sox used three hits, three walks and a hit batter to pick up six runs before closer Bryan Verbitsky came in to face one batter and end the game.

Game three of the five game series is set for tonight in Eugene.

Hall of Fame Induction

Two championship teams, one administrator and six former student athletes will be inducted into the Siuslaw High School Hall of Fame this evening at Ocean Dunes Golf Links.

Mary Robinson Dodson is still considered one of the best all-around athletes to come out of Siuslaw. She earned nine varsity letters in volleyball, basketball and track. She set school records in the 100 and 200 meters as well as the long jump by the time she graduated. Dodson was all-state in three track events and went on to become a two-time NAIA Conference Long Jump Champion while competing at Southern Oregon.

Greg Klosterman was one of the few athletes to make the move to Division I college basketball from a small town high school following his graduation from Siuslaw in 1992. During his senior season, the 6 -9 post led the team in scoring, rebounding and blocked shots, often facing double and triple-teams.

At the University of Portland, he helped the Pilots to a West Coast Conference Tournament win in 1996 and their second ever NCAA Basketball Tournament appearance.

The final Hall of Fame honoree: Kirsten Daniel Holden. She earned 12 varsity letters at Siuslaw, competing in Cross Country, basketball and track.

She led the league in scoring, assists and rebounding both her junior and senior years on the basketball court, earning all-league and all-state honors.

After high school she played at the collegiate level with Seattle Pacific University.

The Fourth annual Siuslaw Hall of Fame induction ceremony begins at 6:30 this evening at Ocean Dunes Golf Links… doors open at 5:30. Tickets are $10.

The ceremony will be followed by the annual Siuslaw Athletic Booster Club Dinner and Auction tomorrow night at the Florence Events Center.
